Valentine’s Day is coming soon, and for many of us that means it’s time to get a care package together! Whether your loved one is deployed or simply away from home for the holiday, these ideas are sure to put a smile on their face. Just a warning: below are pictures from a care package I made my husband last year BEFORE I had a nice camera, so please bare with me—I know some of the photos are a bit blurry and hard to read.
1. Decorate the Inside
I started by wrapping the inside of the box with pieces of white computer paper and scotch tape. Then I used photos of us backed with pink, red, and white patterned paper along with some Valentine’s Day themed stickers to decorate it. You might recognize the tissue paper I used—I got it from Victoria’s Secret!
I know, the first picture is a little blurry. But don’t worry, I’ve got your back! Here are the puns I used:
- Life would be unBEARable without you!
- There are so many RAISINS to love you, my dear!
- I’m totally NUTS about you.
- You oFISHally have my heart.
- I’m completely BANANAS about you!
- You are a JOY to my life.
- Being away from you BLOWS.
- We were MINT to be together!
- How did I SKOR such an amazing man?!
- You are one HOT TAMALE!
- Missing you MOUNDS!!!
- I love you to PIECES.
- I SODA think you’re amazing.
That little baggie in the bottom right corner of the picture says “A kiss for every day since our last” and it’s filled with about 30 Hershey’s Kisses. Since I had just seen my husband in the beginning of January, it had only been about a month between Valentine’s Day and when I last saw him. If you know when you’re going to see your special someone again, you could even change it to “A kiss for every day until our next.”
3. Baked Goods
Last year I made these heart-shaped brownies by baking two box mixes of brownie batter in a 9×13″ pan. Once it cooled, I used a heart-shaped cookie-cutter to cut them out. Then I squirted white icing on them and decorated them with sprinkles. When I put them in the baggie the icing got a little smooshed (as you can see), but I was told they still tasted amazing. If your man isn’t quite a brownie guy, try making pink cookies instead!
4. Little Extras
It’s always fun to throw in some extra little things you know your man will love! My husband’s favorite candies are M&M’s, so I made sure to add a big package of the seasonal Red Velvet M&M’s. I also included some Snapple singles to go and a pair of fuzzy pink socks that he’s probably worn more than I have throughout our relationship. I remember adding a few other items as well, but these are the only things I have pictures of for some reason.
5. Seal it with a Kiss
Last but not least, make sure you write a love letter and seal that puppy with a kiss!
